Last weekend, from the 4th to the 6th of October, Split in Croatia became the center of yachting and sailing thanks to the first edition of the CROYA Yacht Charter Show, an exhibition of yacht charters, which showcased the most prestigious yachts available for charter in Croatia. Over 40 luxury yachts created an impressive display in the city, attracting around 200 charter brokers from all over the world who registered to participate in the event, where they could personally explore the fleet of luxury motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans, ranging in length from 20 to 55 meters.
Participants had the opportunity to tour a wide selection of vessels, meet the captains and crew, and sample the culinary offerings of yacht chefs. In other words, they could form their own well-founded opinion about the yachts and the destination itself, which is invaluable when selecting vessels for clients. Additionally, it was an excellent opportunity for suppliers of products and services for luxury yachts to showcase themselves to owners, agents, captains and other international clients in the sector.
In addition to over 40 luxury yachts, visitors enjoyed a program of educational seminars on the most beautiful sea routes,as well as an entertainment program featuring chefs and crew members. During the event, a chef competition was held, challenging participants to present an innovative approach to Croatian cuisine. It was a competition organized by Michelin-starred chef Mike Jennings, who also sat on the judging panel, along with chef Ino Kuvačić, a cookbook author, and Antony Toni Bjelančić, a beloved Croatian chef known among celebrities.
During the CROYA Charter Show, a second competition was also held – the CYBA Designer Water Competition – aimed at raising awareness of “protecting the blue through ecology”. This competition, organized in cooperation with the Charter Yacht Broker Association (CYBA) from the United States, challenged the crew to prepare healthy and tasty drinking water, highlighting the excellent cooperation and support between the CRO.Y.A. and CYBA organizations.
One of the unique stars of the exhibition was the motor yacht DESTINO, which made its debut in Split. This 29-meter yacht, launched last June, was designed by Sanlorenzo. Destino is equipped with a spacious layout with five cabins accommodating up to 11 guests and a crew of four. Its distinguishing features include an asymmetrical layout, which provides an extraordinary 15% additional volume on the main deck, creating a sense of spaciousness that can rival much larger vessels. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the interior with natural light, further enhanced by a stunning sliding wall on the left side of the main salon. This transformative feature seamlessly blends the beauty of the sea with the luxurious lounge, offering unparalleled panoramic views.
In addition to the excellent entertainment and educational program, CROYA offered many opportunities for networking and new business prospects. The CROYA Yacht Charter Show was part of the Split Sailing Festival, under the patronage of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia, in cooperation with the Croatian National Tourist Board.Project partners include the City of Split, the Tourist Board of Split-Dalmatia County, the Tourist Board of Split and the Port Authority of Split-Dalmatia.
‘Split is a special place in itself and was our first choice for the venue of the exhibition,’ said Stipe Petričević, president of CRO.Y.A., the association of Croatian charter and marine agencies that organized the event. ‘The most demanding guests come here all year round. Our main goal is to strengthen our position alongside the French Riviera, Mallorca, Greece and Turkey. I am convinced that we will succeed.’ Croatia has one of the largest charter fleets in the world, but the offer of luxury crewed yachts is significantly smaller. This is a niche segment aimed at high-net-worth individuals who charter yachts through charter brokers. The introduction of the CROYA Charter Show and the positioning of Split on the map of charter exhibitions is crucial for establishing our coast as a premium destination for demanding clients. Additionally, we can confidently confirm that the summer season is still ongoing, and the weather in October still allows for swimming and sunbathing. We warmly recommend Croatia as your next charter destination.
